Xiaomi showcases its under display camera tech

As smartphone is trying to get maximum display to body ratio (currently above 90%) one of the major problem for getting full display on the front of smartphones is front camera. Some smartphone companies have tried different method by using physical motors like new Asus zenfone 7 and other devices with pop up cameras. But the use of physical motors for this method creates a problems like thickness of the device and water resistant and the normal wear and tear can cause this type of pop-up cameras to fail if you're using it for longer period. So under-display camera was one of the tech that many smartphone companies are heavily investing in. In order to get full view displays in smartphones.

We already know that ZTE is trying to launch a smartphone with under display camera next month. If it happens it will be the first mass production smartphones with under display camera tech. Now xiaomi also has revealed it is also joining the race. A company VP shared on his Weibo profile that their third-generation solution is finally ready for mass production, as well as posting a video, revealing how the tech works.

Xiaomi is calling this as its third generation under display camera tech that is finally going for mass production. since the first iteration was a lab-only product, while the successor was a camera and a screen on a prototype that still wasn't good enough for mass production.

Xiaomi explained how the tech works in a separate post on the official Weibo profile. The panel is doubling the number of pixels over the small circle to have the same pixel density and color accuracy as the rest of the screen. It is borrowing colors from the neighboring pixels but is able to turn off/go black on-demand - mostly when the camera is turned on.

Due to the new pixel arrangement, Xiaomi is now able to implement its own understanding of how light should be transmitted in order to minimize any glare. The image is extremely clear with proper colors, allegedly so quality won't be sacrificed.

Mass production of devices with the new selfie camera will begin next year  and mostly its flagship line will be one of the first to get it followed by premium mid range devices and other devices .
